Net exposure: US National Security Agency monitors Huawei

US media Beijing time on the 23rd exposed the National Security Agency (NSA) "Shotgiant" monitoring program, targeting the Chinese communications equipment manufacturer Huawei. On the 23rd, Huawei strongly condemned such intrusion into the internal network and expressed its opposition to all acts that endangered cybersecurity. Chinese industry experts have called for strengthening cybersecurity.

According to the New York Times, Huawei has become the target of the National Security Agency's (NSA) codenamed "Shotgiant" project. The NSA has invaded the server of Shenzhen Huawei since 2007 to see if it has contact with the Chinese government. At the same time, it monitors the communication of Huawei executives and collects information about Huawei products.

Germany's "Der Spiegel" also reported that the US National Security Bureau invaded Huawei's computer network and copied more than 1,400 customer profiles and internal training files used by engineers.

Huawei responded on the 23rd that if the New York Times report is true, we strongly condemn such intrusions, infiltrate into our internal network and monitor communications.

Huawei said that despite the current state of the digital age, the company's network is constantly being monitored and attacked from different sources. However, we reiterate that Huawei opposes all acts that endanger cybersecurity and is willing to cooperate with governments, industries and users in the most open and transparent manner to jointly address global cybersecurity challenges.

Professor Lu Benfu, deputy dean of the Graduate School of Management of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the monitoring of the United States has already exceeded the scope of government and other institutions. Not only have the leaders of some countries been spared, but now it seems that some large enterprises have not been spared. Huawei is a multi-victim. one. It is worth noting that some important technical fields in China also have risks of being monitored. Both countries and enterprises need to strengthen information security to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

Fang Xingdong, founder of the Internet Lab, said that the United States’ monitoring of other national leaders and the theft of corporate data such as Yahoo and Google made us see that cybersecurity has gone beyond the capabilities of enterprises. Faced with this situation, on the one hand, China must protest and condemn the actions of the United States at the government level. On the other hand, it is necessary to strengthen national cybersecurity construction, especially in sensitive areas such as finance, energy, and military industry.

In fact, the United States has implemented monitoring activities for many technology companies around the world. For example, according to the "Prime Project" that was exposed, the US N SA and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) accessed the central servers of nine Internet companies, including Yahoo, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and Apple, to capture and track users' voices and videos. Chat, photos, email, web logs, and more.

The US NSA has also implanted a "back door" (personal intelligence stealing program) in computer and communication equipment products such as Samsung, Cisco, and Dell to use it for eavesdropping and monitoring.

In 2012, the US House Intelligence Committee conducted a survey on Huawei's “Threats of National Security” in the form of hearings and investigation reports. The final investigation report did not give substantive evidence of security threats.
